Gangtey trek

Amidst valley in the Eastern part of Wangduephodrang is where lies a beautiful valley of Gangtey. It is the winter home for black necked crane who migrate from Tibet. It gives a scenic view of the valley with yellowish meadow during autumn.

Day 1: Arrive at Paro

Upon arrival at Paro, it will take about 15 minutes completing the formalities. After completion of formalities, our representatives will assist to Thimphu which takes 2 hours. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 2: Thimphu to Punakha

After breakfast, head towards Punakha. On the way it takes 1 hour drive to reach Dochula where you will come across 108 temples with a majestic view of Eastern Himalayas. On the way to Punakha, you will stop at Lobesa where a visit to Chimi Lhakhang will be made. It is one of the oldest monastery built by Drukpa Kuenley, the Divine mad man. After lunch, a visit to Punakha dzong which was once the capital residence of Zhabdrung Nagawang Namgyal. In the evening, a visit towards Khamsum Yuelley Lhakhang which takes 1 hour of hike. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 3: Punakha to Wangdue

After breakfast, a drive to Wangduephodrang. A visit to Wangduephodrang dzong and to Bajo town. After that, head towards Phobjikha valley which takes about 2 hours. The valley gives a scenic nature of golden meadown and a site to see a  rear bird, black necked crane during winter. After lunch, visit to Gangtey Goenpa monastery. Explore the beautiful valley of Phobjikha. Overnight at camp in Phobjikha.

Day 4: Phobjikha to Zasa

After breakfast, the trek starts from a village of Tabiting. On the way to Zasa you will come across a juniper forest with bamboo species and rhododendron upon arriving Tselela pass which is 3430m above the sea level. The trail from Phobjikha to Zasa will take about 6 hours. After few hours of walk, you reach Gogona village where there might be a nomadic yak herders. Campsite near a yak pasture called Zasa.

Day 5: Zasa to Chorten Karpo

With the walk for 6 hours, you reach Chorten karpo situated under Khotokha valley. The trail takes a gentle climb of Shobju-la pass and then descend to the valley of Khotokha. After a gentle climb, you reach Chorten Karpo surrounded by pine trees. Overnight at campsite.

Day 6: Khotokha to Wangduephodrang

It takes 5 hours from Khotokha to Wangduephodrang Chazam which was built by ancient iron master Thangtong Goenpo. From Khotokha, the trail descends till Chazam (Iron chain). After lunch, a drive to Thimphu. Overnight at Thimphu.

Day 7: Thimphu to Paro

After breakfast, sight-seeing at Thimphu with a visit to following places:

i. National Textile Museum

This museum introduces Bhutan’s having national art of weaving. There is a small group of weavers working their looms inside the museum.

ii. Buddha Point

This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statue in the world. It is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. Enjoy a stunning view of Thimphu city from the Buddha Point.

After that, a drive to Paro and break for lunch after arriving Paro. Afternoon a visit to Ta dzong, Rinpung dzong, Drugyel dzong and Kyichu lhakhang. Overnight at hotel in paro.

Day 8: Departure from Paro

After breakfast, drive to Paro airport and depart with lots of adventurous memory of Bhutan.
